I've used many rental car companies, but large companies are more reliable. The pickup process is fast, convenient, and there are no hidden issues when changing cars.
It's the same company as SIXT, with pick-up and drop-off at the same location. The car was in great condition, and in December, all cars are equipped with winter tires as required by local law, so no need to worry about that. Added a driver born after 2000 as an additional driver, and after including taxes and fees, the average cost was roughly 20 euros per day for 7 days. Maybe the 44.55-euro fee was because the second driver was young. For drivers older than 26, this fee might not apply. Just for your reference.
After exiting the airport, take the door with the covered walkway. Follow the navigation to SIXT; it's about a 10-15 minute walk. There's a free shuttle bus, but I’m not sure which door to wait at.
Everything was fine, except that despite having ordered as full of an insurance as was available on the website I had to get a separate insurance at the car rental place which increased the price somewhat. This intransparency was not very nice.
The car model was quite old, the pickup location was very far, and the airport shuttle staff was seriously delayed by an hour upon arrival. Their phone was unreachable. When returning the car, there was a slight fuel shortage, and the staff seemed clueless, unable to simply charge a manual handling fee. They kept asking me to refuel, and it took a long time to explain the situation before they understood.
The car had just over 40,000 kilometers on it, and the condition was good, equipped with snow tires. The rental agency I booked with was Dollar, but in reality, it's a joint operation with local agencies Thrifty and Saga. All three brands operate at the same location, and services and insurance are provided by Thrifty. Therefore, booking with the other two might get you a better price for the same model. The staff at the rental agency confirmed whether I needed additional insurance. I showed them the English statement on the QEEQ booking form saying 'Supplemental insurance already included, no need for additional purchase,' and they didn't ask further. They specifically mentioned that the tunnel near Akureyri is the only toll point along Route 1, and you can bypass it. Upon returning the car, the inspection was quick, and the process went smoothly. Overall, I was satisfied with this rental experience.
