When I arrived, there was only one staff member, and I had to wait in line for over half an hour. They told me the original automatic car was not available, so I had to take a manual car with over 130,000 kilometers on it, which was old and full of scratches. The passenger seat was filthy and stained, and it couldn't be cleaned properly. I lodged a complaint two weeks ago and still haven't received a response.
When we arrived, we were told that the reserved car model was unavailable. Originally, we were supposed to pick up the car at Terminal 1 of the airport, but we ended up waiting for 1.5 hours on-site for the car to be transferred from Terminal 4. We've rented cars abroad many times before, and in such situations, companies usually offer a free upgrade. However, this rental company told us that upgrading would incur extra costs. Not sure if this is due to Spanish rigidity or just this company's policy.
Very satisfied; the car we received was a new model with only 500 kilometers on it. There were three significant scratches during the car inspection, which were confirmed by the store, and returning the car was hassle-free.
The start was good... nice not-too-pushy salesguy upselled better car for reasonable 12 euros/day. When I asked "is this final price?" he confirmed but later charged 12 eur+VAT/day instead. Nice tactic that is usually used in third-world countries. Shame on you.
They were supposed to give car with full tank, but instead it was at 20%. They instructed me to return it with the same tank (I returned it with 30%) but then they still charged for fuel and 'refueling fee'. Luckily, after 2 weeks of fighting I got this refunded but to be honest they should have paid *me* for the extra fuel. Whatever.
Also the car was not cleaned (it wasn't dirty, but it wasn't clean either).
Anyway, I saw they were *trying* to offer good service, so it's not all bad.
