Overall service was okay, but there was a tire burst and had to exchange the car. The roadside assistance was very slow, and a model worth thousands was taken by the staff from the car. It wasn't placed in lost and found even though it was just a few hours. Sigh.
I booked a mid to large sedan, specifically a Mercedes C-Class, but they said it wasn't available. They only had an Audi A6 as an upgrade or a hybrid Jeep Compass. I'm used to driving sedans, especially in Germany where most roads are highways or city streets with minimal mountain roads, so the Jeep was not suitable. They mentioned the train station branch had limited options and suggested the airport branch instead. Unacceptable. When signing the contract, they added roadside assistance insurance without any explanation. I had to contact Zuzuche to have it removed. I picked up the car 30 minutes earlier than scheduled, and they extended the rental to 7 days instead of 6. Later, I picked up the car late, and they adjusted it back to 6 days. Be cautious about not being too early or late when picking up the car.
The Jeep's acceleration was very slow, which made it more suited for mountain roads than highways, so avoid overtaking recklessly. The car's condition was decent, with a mileage of over 70,000 km, relatively new. During the pickup, one of the tires had a pressure of 1.6 bar. I insisted the staff inflate it, which they did. However, it lost pressure again during the trip, and I had to refill it at a gas station. The garage staff were nice and explained some fuel-related tips. Don't forget to ask for a parking card; it should usually be in the car.
This was my first time using Europcar, and I might not consider them again next time.
1. Due to a train delay, I called the rental company in advance to confirm a 10-minute delay, expecting to pick up the car by 19:10. I arrived at the shop at 19:07, but the staff had already left, so I could only pick up the car the next day. 2. I booked a premium wagon, but was given a sedan instead.
I booked an Audi A4 wagon, but they gave me a Mercedes E220 wagon instead. Very satisfied! Picking up the car was just a matter of completing the paperwork at the counter and following the staff's instructions to get the car myself. Returning the car was even simpler: I handed over the keys at the counter, was asked if the tank was full, and was told everything was fine without them even checking the car. I picked up the car 2 hours early and returned it 1 hour late. No problem. Germans are so trusting and accommodating. Highly commendable!
Picking up the car at Frankfurt Central Station was very convenient, and the service was great.
