Then I took a 15-minute ride to their office, and the entire process, including paperwork and car pickup, took about 30 minutes. Everything went smoothly with no extra fees. The handover included checking the mileage, fuel gauge, and car paint. Any issues were noted and photographed for upload to QEEQ.

The young man who helped us with the temporary driving permit was quite enthusiastic. He facilitated the process at the Colombo DMV, speeding things up (even though there was a dedicated counter for foreigners, there were many Indians and Bangladeshis getting permits). The service fee was 80 USD, which probably included some tips for the DMV officials. The process took about 50 minutes, and we successfully obtained the temporary permit. At our request, the young man took us to a supermarket and a gas station before we hit the road.
