Agent needed to take care for oil change before car was ready. No ticket counter, difficult to find and difficult to contact agent. Over an hour waiting for car to return from oil change, two different service lights on dashboard but agent assured everything checked out, and when dropped off car no agent available. Had to leave car in garage with keys. "Ticket counter" is one room office in high rise, returning car is not typical drop off--they share a garage with an apartment complex valet. Very confusing. As a side, the car was missing a hub cap.
Terrible experience. The airport car rental point was too small with limited vehicles, and early pick-up was not allowed. Customers were made to wait without reason, and the staff at the airport location were rude. When picking up the car, the fuel gauge was not full, but customers were asked to sign off on a full tank return. The staff were dishonest; a customer left an item in the car, and the employee falsely claimed it wasn't there.
The free mileage is only 100 miles per day. I didn't notice it when I placed the order, which is my responsibility, but they charge $2 per mile over the limit. I checked with other companies, and they usually charge $0.75 per mile. A round trip from Los Angeles to Las Vegas is over 500 kilometers, and visiting surrounding natural attractions would require over 1,000 miles. The rental car company staff said 100 miles per day is enough for city driving, but if I just wanted to drive within the city I would take Uber. If I didn’t plan to drive between states, why would I rent a car? I asked the rental company if I could get a mileage package or discount, but they refused bluntly and were very rude. My friend's rental car had a small gas tank. Before returning the car, we filled it up to 3/4 of the tank for $25, used 1/4 of the tank to drive to the return point, and they charged us $30. We reserved a child safety seat, the cheapest one, which didn't weigh much but cost $10 per day. We found the rental contract which stated $5 per day and got the price corrected. The office was messy, and all the customers I saw were Chinese. I wonder if the poor service attitude is because most of their customers are Chinese.
The car was very new, and both pickup and return were very easy and fast, but the procedures were not very formal. The inspection and return processes were handled quite casually, which is usually fine, but it could be a problem if any issues arise.
