We needed a small car for a short trip, but when we arrived 30 minutes early at the car rental company, they told us there were no cars available. They offered an upgrade for an additional 20 euros per day or we could wait for more than half an hour. Since an automatic car is more convenient, we accepted the upgrade. Hertz has always provided good cars, and this time it was a car with just over 10,000 kilometers on it. It worked great over the past few days. Returning the car was also easy, no issues with insurance. We returned the car a day early due to a change in plans and asked if we could get some discount for that, they agreed initially but didn't give any discount in the end.
Overall satisfied. The shop is easy to find, the staff are warm and polite. However, some staff members have limited English proficiency, making communication a bit time-consuming.
The pickup information was different from what Zuzuche provided. The cross-border fee was said to be 16 euros on Zuzuche, but it was actually 30 euros. The insurance compensation from Zuzuche requires you to pay upfront.
This was the worst car rental experience I've ever had. The staff at the store were pushy, trying to upsell and change the car model for additional costs. While the extra charges weren't too much, they ignored my clear request to pay with a Euro debit card instead of a credit card. The staff even locked the doors and left during my attempts to withdraw money, and ultimately charged my credit card. Communication was completely ineffective, and the whole process was extremely frustrating.
Hertz was easy to find, and the car was in good condition. I initially rented a Sportage, but there were none available, so they upgraded me to a BMW for free. That's the difference with big companies.
