Got a small Volkswagen SUV, brand new with just over 10,000 km on the odometer. The booking stated full-to-full fuel policy, but in practice, it's based on the fuel gauge reading, which is hard to manage precisely. If you return it slightly under, there's a penalty with no room for negotiation, so you end up over-refueling. The company is very strict about vehicle inspections. Upon return, they even check the underside of the front bumper for scratches by touch. The return process requires an in-person inspection with an immediate report. If you return the car on your own without this process, you can't verify the vehicle's condition later, and it could lead to disputes.
