I have always rented from Alamo in the past, and it has been a delightful experience, feeling very lucky every time I pick up a car. AVIS, however, was the complete opposite! Early in the morning, they didn't say a word, refused to let me inspect the car beforehand, and a rude Hispanic worker parked the car slanted on the street. Usually, the reaction is 'drive away quickly, or it might get hit by passing cars!' No need to look closely; the rear bumper of the white car clearly shows it has been rear-ended, with a black mark about 1 meter long! The left-side stainless steel trim was hanging loose! It seemed like it would fall off with any acceleration! The worker rudely said, 'No photos allowed!' I then filed a complaint with the car rental service. The quirky girl from the rental service immediately said, 'Let me talk to the rental company staff!' So I put my phone on speaker and handed it to the Black staff member. I swear, the rental service girl stuttered for a few minutes! I swear, she couldn't complete a single word, and no one could understand a thing she said! I was so embarrassed for her! I wanted to vanish! I held back my anger and asked for someone else to take the call. Meanwhile, my son requested a car change, but the Black staff member said that the large car we booked had only this damaged one! Later, another Black woman, seemingly a supervisor, said she would upgrade us to a small SUV. It turned out to be a small Mitsubishi, with a dent in the rear left door, but it was much better than the previous car! And it was drivable! To save time, we decided to take it! The old Mitsubishi SUV! So much to complain about! As soon as we got in, there was a terrible smell! It took days to air out! The cup holders and all plastic parts inside the car were filthy, wiping with a dry tissue revealed black dirt! Disgusting! Pickup location: New York, History Museum. What a terrible rental place!
This family trip included five people and four large pieces of luggage. We originally booked a seven-seater van, but were told upon arrival that there were no vehicles available. We were forced to take a five-seater SUV and informed that it was the largest vehicle available at the time with no other options. We were told that if we were not satisfied, we could come back the next day to see if there were any cars to switch to. However, since we had to leave for the Grand Canyon early the next morning and there was no guarantee that the reserved seven-seater van would be available, we didn't change the car. As a result, we were cramped for a whole week, crossing three states. It felt very disappointing and misleading. If the reservation and payment were completed, why wasn't the vehicle available?
I am originally one of their preferred members. A black employee at the car rental took my credit card and charged me $213.55, then asked me to sign the contract and pushed various insurances on me. I noticed that the $60.55 extra charge was actually a one-way fee, which was already included in my reservation price. After repeatedly explaining this to him and having others check it, they finally completed my rental agreement. The extra charge of $60.55 has still not been refunded to my credit card. Returning the car was very convenient; just park it yourself and inform the front desk at the hotel where I was staying. They upgraded my vehicle to a full-size for free since there were no mid-size cars available. The car was in good condition, practically new as it was bought just two months ago.
