The staff at Budget persistently tried to persuade me to upgrade to an SUV for an additional $50 per day. After some insistence, they offered a cheaper upgrade for an extra $15 per day. I'm not sure if it was due to the reserved model being unavailable, forcing an upgrade. Being inexperienced, I took the upgrade, but later realized there wasn't much difference—it was still a hatchback. This was my first time renting from Budget, and I wasn't very satisfied.
I arrived at the store past the reservation time, only to be told there were no cars available and I would have to wait. The duration of the wait was unknown. After a while, they said there was an SUV available for an additional charge. I declined and waited about an hour before they claimed a car was available, a Honda Accent. The car had just been returned and was not washed. It was cold in New York, so they couldn’t wash the car. I was not familiar with the Accent and it sounded odd. I asked the staff about the car size, and they responded 'Full size'. After repeated confirmation, we started the paperwork. The staff secretly added extra items and then asked me to sign. I questioned the amount, and he claimed it matched the order. I had to show him the order for him to remove the extra items. When I finally got the car, it was a Hyundai Accent, not a Honda, which was small and extremely dirty. I couldn't see out of the car and it was undrivable. After arguing with them, they finally gave me a car of the same class as per the order, but it was still dirty and the wiper blades were ineffective, so I had to make do.
Car was not there when we arrived. Offered two cars or a bus of 12. We decline the Offered and had to wait almost two hours while they asked Avis and found one. For this car I paid extra and called in advance to get it.
