I booked a V-Class but was given an old Vito instead. The oil warning light came on several times, the tire pressure was unstable and kept alarming, and the seats were dirty. Aside from the driver's seat backrest angle being adjustable, nothing else could be moved. The comfort level was extremely poor!
The staff were pretty nice and enthusiastic. However, they did mention the need to buy insurance at the store, which might be due to different understandings of the two insurance models. Originally, I wanted to rent a touring car, but they gave me a Lynk & Co.
The actual car was a new model Kia, which is significantly larger than the Qashqai. It was a diesel vehicle with good performance and features, but not very convenient for city driving. Initially, the rental company recommended a BMW, but it would have cost an additional 25 euros per day, so I turned it down. They also suggested pre-purchasing a full tank of fuel, claiming it would save the hassle of refueling when returning the car. In reality, the tank was only a little more than half full when I picked up the car, so pre-purchasing a full tank would not have been cost-effective. I avoided this pitfall. Overall, the service attitude and the car pickup process were straightforward and smooth. Regarding additional insurance, we showed them the contract that clearly outlined the terms. That English explanation was quite important. After reviewing it, they briefly explained that in the event of a claim, we would need to pay upfront and that concluded our discussion.
When we arrived, we were told that the reserved car model was unavailable. Originally, we were supposed to pick up the car at Terminal 1 of the airport, but we ended up waiting for 1.5 hours on-site for the car to be transferred from Terminal 4. We've rented cars abroad many times before, and in such situations, companies usually offer a free upgrade. However, this rental company told us that upgrading would incur extra costs. Not sure if this is due to Spanish rigidity or just this company's policy.
Extremely poor attitude. I strongly advise everyone to avoid this rental company. I reserved a Volvo XC40, but received a damaged Citroen instead, which shocked me. The staff also messed up my email, preventing me from receiving any electronic documents. Repeated reminders to correct it were futile. Avoid at all costs.
The car I got was much bigger than what I booked. The roads and parking lots in Spanish towns are extremely narrow, making it difficult to drive. The car was in poor condition and had a broken taillight. The most ridiculous part: they gave me a car with 8 liters of fuel and either I had to return it with at least 8 liters, or prepay for a full tank and return it empty. This policy clearly aims to take advantage of you, as it’s nearly impossible to return it with exactly the same amount of fuel. I've rented cars in multiple countries over the years, and this is the first time I encountered such a situation! The contract amount was wrong, and the staff said they would send me the correct contract later. I waited for 4–5 days but received nothing. After multiple attempts to coordinate with the rental car company’s customer service, I finally received it, but it still had errors. This country just feels unreliable overall!
