Europcar is a large car rental company with many locations, a wide range of vehicle options, and flexible pick-up and drop-off services. You can smoothly pick up the car using a mainland driver's license along with the translation booklet. Since I booked with their full insurance package, there was no upselling at pick-up, and even when the side mirror had a scratch upon return, no charges were applied. If you're driving across countries, you need to inform them during pick-up, and it usually costs about 10 euros extra per day. Because my flight landed late, the Mini Countryman I reserved was unavailable, so they gave me a plug-in hybrid Mitsubishi instead. The car was larger but had a smaller gas tank and slightly higher fuel consumption. If you're renting a car in Europe, I suggest opting for a smaller car as it's easier to drive and park in cities, and fuel and toll costs are lower. For Europcar, consider choosing an Audi A3 to ensure you get a luxury brand vehicle.
Staff management needs improvement; the waiting time is too long. Even though I purchased full insurance from the platform, the rental company still insisted on buying additional insurance.
Hidden insurance costs are a major issue. It feels like the information provided on the platform and the full insurance purchased were not properly synced with the rental company, so all the paperwork had to be redone. Renting on-site might be more reliable.
A large and well-regulated company. This time the car was diesel again, and I had to refill AdBlue along the way. However, the company reimbursed the cost in cash upon return.
It's the standard process for European car rental companies. The car I booked was not available, and the staff tried to suggest an upgrade. I declined, so they gave me a similar model!
The service and car condition were excellent. Except for being persuaded to purchase full insurance, the car has automatic braking, which is very responsive, so it's unlikely to have any scratches or bumps. The insurance was unnecessary.
The car was in relatively good condition, but there was frequent noise and jerkiness during startup, which made me wonder if it was due to the car model or this specific vehicle. The pickup process went very smoothly—the staff at the counter explained everything thoroughly without trying to upsell, which left a positive impression. The lady who helped us with the car inspection meticulously marked every scratch on the vehicle. Even though we had full insurance, she clearly explained which situations wouldn’t be covered. Her sense of responsibility was impressive. When returning the car, the staff member was very friendly and kindly reminded us about the high number of pickpockets at the airport. After the return process, he even escorted us to the terminal. Aside from the driving experience of the Mercedes B-class itself, the overall experience was excellent!
The car model provided at pickup was very small and different from the one described. Changing to a different model required additional payment. Initially, they said it would cost 50 euros per day, but after negotiation, it was reduced to 20 euros per day. In the end, we did not switch cars and made do with the one provided. At the time of return, the rental company looked for issues. Although there were no scratches during the entire rental period, they claimed the underside of the car was scratched. Since the video taken during pickup did not cover the underside, we ended up paying 180 euros in compensation. Fortunately, we had purchased domestic car insurance, so this cost can be reimbursed.
