1. I booked a Pajero, but received a Haval instead. The price difference is significant, it's incomprehensible how they classify similar categories. 2. Be cautious, communication is only possible via WhatsApp as phone calls are not answered. This is highly inconvenient. Outside their working hours (8 AM to 10 PM), you can't reach anyone. Shockingly, I had scheduled a car return for 7 AM, agreed to pay the handling fee, yet no one was around. They responded leisurely by 8 AM and still charged a 70 AED booking fee. 3. They are quick to lock the car. I received a fine on the road, which was less than half of the deposit, yet they locked the car without a call. Fortunately, I was at the hotel; what if I were on the road? Just to earn a 50 AED fee, I guess.

The service was fine, but after returning home, charges kept appearing on my credit card every few days without any explanation, and no emails were sent to clarify. It's been half a month already. They had previously sent a bill, and all parking fees, tolls, and fines were already deducted. Despite this, I'm still being charged 52 AED one day and 10 AED another day—it’s extremely frustrating. Other aspects were fine, but this frequent unexplained billing is really annoying. I have to spend a lot of time communicating with them over a couple hundred AED.

Smooth communication and excellent service attitude. We added Oman coverage insurance for 4 days on the spot. However, the rental company mentioned that even with insurance, if there is an incident in Oman, we are still responsible for transporting the car back to Dubai, which is a reasonable requirement. The rental company also passed a traffic speeding fine from Dubai to us, costing several hundred dirhams.

Avis has a completely procedural response, without solving customer issues: 1) During the car inspection, I was taking a photo of the license plate with my phone, and the staff impatiently put the phone in front of me to sign. They even whispered to their colleagues in a mocking tone; 2) We booked a child's safety seat, but the store only had booster seats, and we were charged the higher price of the safety seat instead of the booster seat; 3) When asked about the type of gasoline needed, the staff told us to figure it out ourselves, and there was no indication on the car or any documents; 4) When confirming the drop-off location with the staff multiple times, they were very impatient and dismissive. The store could not be located on the map, and multiple calls to the store two days before drop-off were unanswered. Overall, the service from Avis was poor, and I won't be returning.

The service at the car rental counter, provided by an Indian staff member, took an extraordinarily long time overall. I waited for 20 minutes just to rent the car, and the staff member displayed a poor attitude, using sarcastic tones in English. Additionally, when making the payment, they asked me to pay the rental fee again. Only after double-checking the charges did I discover the duplicate payment. If I hadn't checked carefully, I might have paid this additional charge along with the insurance fee and deposit. Does this company treat every customer this way, just betting that not everyone will scrutinize the charges? This approach is particularly dishonest toward people who are not fluent in English or those who tend to be careless. When returning the car, even though I had confirmed my arrival time in advance, I still had to wait for 30 minutes at the counter for a driver to inspect the vehicle. I repeatedly mentioned that I had a flight to catch, but no urgency was shown. There was another foreign woman in a similar situation—also waiting for half an hour. Every time we asked the staff for updates, they would tell us to wait another five minutes. Those 'five minutes' accumulated into 30 minutes of waiting. Overall, I do not recommend this rental company. I’ve rented cars three times in Dubai and four times in Saudi Arabia, and this was by far the worst service experience.

Upon arrival, you need to contact the staff, follow their instructions to pick up the car in the parking lot, and bear the expensive airport parking fees yourself. When returning the car, you must provide an exact time for drop-off. The staff's response is extremely slow—I mentioned one day in advance that I wanted to return the car two hours earlier, but they didn't reply. On the day of return, I waited at the airport for an hour, and the airport parking fee they wanted me to cover was very expensive after exceeding 30 minutes. Due to their issues, I said I wouldn't pay, but they insisted on deducting from my credit card. Let's see how this will be resolved later. Worst experience, hands down.

That said, I acknowledge it’s partly because I went for the cheapest option, so I accept the problems as mine, but let me explain what happened. ① The efficiency is extremely low. It took two hours to pick up the car, and my family was exhausted. They only started preparing the paperwork after we arrived, and it seemed like the documents weren’t even processed on-site—they were faxed in from somewhere else. One family waited at the airport for 40 minutes for their shuttle, which was even worse. ② The car model didn’t match what I booked, and the price difference wasn’t refunded despite contacting the platform. I rented a Kia MPV but was given a compact SUV, which even had engine issues. ③ For all practical purposes, it’s like forced one-way rental. When I booked, I opted to return the car at Dubai Mall, but when I picked up the car, they claimed this was my own selection mistake. However, there was no such address, and they gave me an alternative location in the city, which turned out to be more like the suburbs—not much better than returning it to the airport.

The car rental experience with Auto Union in Dubai was extremely poor. The app stated that there would be a person holding a sign at the airport for pick-up, but upon arrival, there was no one in sight. When I called the rental company, my first call went unanswered. It wasn't until my second call that I was told someone would come to pick me up. The person who came to pick me up could not speak English clearly and asked me to contact him via WhatsApp. We finally met more than an hour later than the scheduled time. Additionally, besides the 2400 AED deposit, I was charged an extra 640 AED for the car rental, even though I had already prepaid through the app. The fuel tank only had two marks of fuel when I received the car, and I wasn't informed about refueling requirements until I persistently inquired via WhatsApp. Very unprofessional. When it was time to return the car, we had agreed on a time of 8 PM at the airport parking lot, but the person was almost an hour late and also had poor English communication skills. On March 27, I noticed during reimbursement that the rental company had charged an additional 26 AED to my credit card on March 24 without any notice. The charge was under the name Golden Key Rent a Car, which did not match the company name. Terrible experience!

Do not choose this car rental company. First, we booked a car pick-up at midnight, but they didn't arrive until 3 AM and didn't answer our calls in the meantime. Our whole family helplessly waited at the airport, and we finally completed the procedures after 4 AM. Second, we had already paid the rental fee through the platform, but the rental company forced us to pay again on site or they wouldn't give us the car. It's been over a month, and we haven't been refunded yet. Third, the deposit was supposed to be a pre-authorization hold, but they charged it directly, leading to credit card repayments. They also failed to refund it within the promised time and still haven’t done so. Fourth, they charged us for traffic violations and service fees without providing any receipts. Fifth, the provided vehicle did not match the booked model, and the one we got was cheaper, but they did not refund the price difference.

Dubai Airport has 3 terminals, with most international flights arriving at T3. Most car rental companies have counters at T3 and T1, but PAYLESS only has a counter at T1. You need to take the shuttle bus between terminals, which can be inconvenient for those who are not fluent in English or have little experience traveling abroad. T1 is an older terminal with unclear rental car signs. PAYLESS’s counter is the least visible, located at the very end of all car rental counters. The most disappointing thing was that the car pickup point is at A2 in the parking building. All car rental companies have a counter here, but PAYLESS’s counter is always empty, and customers have to call to get service. During my car pickup, there was miscommunication—the staff initially told me to go to the second floor in A2, but later said to go to the right exit lane outside the terminal building. It was very confusing. With my pickup slip in hand, I went to the address marked at A2, but there was no one there. Other companies’ staff kindly told me to call PAYLESS. After three calls and a 25-minute wait, someone finally brought the car from the basement, which they said took time. The car inspection was thorough but they didn’t mention whether the car used gasoline or diesel, and I forgot to ask. The service staff later told me it was likely gasoline. The car manual was thicker than a dictionary and all in English, so I didn’t bother reading it. I took a chance and pumped gasoline. After the handover, I found they didn't give me the parking ticket and had to chase them for it. At the exit, they charged me 15 AED for parking, which should have been covered by the rental company as part of the rental fee, but they insisted. During the return process, I was at T3 for departure, so I unloaded my friends, children, and luggage, and then drove to T1’s A2 area. No one was there. After multiple desperate calls, they kept saying someone would come in various time frames but took 30 minutes. The car inspection guy took his time, examining every part of the car for about 8 minutes before signing the inspection sheet. He didn't give me a copy, so I took a photo with my phone. When I mentioned the 15 AED charge, he cluelessly said it shouldn't be charged and that was it. After confirming multiple times that all return procedures were ok, I rushed to catch the shuttle bus. On a side note, it was raining that day, which is rare in Dubai’s desert climate. I had to stand in the open parking lot in the rain while they slowly inspected the car. This was the most frustrating rental experience of my life. I hope the rare rain in Dubai not only washes the city's glamorous facade but also cleanses their hearts.
