The car rental pickup was chaotic, with over an hour of waiting in line—something I've never experienced in over a decade of renting cars internationally. When I finally got to the counter, the staff couldn't find the car I reserved and casually suggested I take whichever car they could offer, regardless of the category I booked. I had reserved a Ford Focus because I had two 24-inch suitcases and a large backpack, but they insisted on giving me a Mini. I explained my luggage wouldn't fit, and they told me the system showed a Focus, but they simply couldn't locate it. After struggling for a long time, we barely managed to cram my luggage into the trunk, needing to forcefully press it down to close the door. When I asked about the fuel type, the staff didn’t know and told me to check the contract. The car was new but lacked a rearview camera and adaptive cruise control, which I accepted. However, within 5 minutes of driving, a warning light came on indicating low tire pressure. I just dealt with it until returning the car. The return process, however, was very quick—the staff completely ignored the warning light. Given how busy they were, I imagine the next renter will take the car just as is, with no inspection likely to be done.
The car rental location was poorly managed, and I waited in line for over an hour. This was the first time in over ten years of renting cars abroad that I experienced this. When it was finally my turn, the staff couldn’t locate the car and started discussing options with me. It seemed like the car model I reserved didn’t matter, and they would just give me whatever was available. I originally booked a Ford Focus because I had two 24-inch suitcases and a large backpack, but they insisted I take a Mini. I mentioned that my luggage wouldn’t fit, and the staff said the system showed a Focus was available, but he really couldn’t find it. After a lot of effort, we managed to squeeze the luggage into the trunk by forcefully pressing it down to shut the door. When I asked the staff what kind of fuel the car needed, they didn’t know and told me to check the contract. The car was brand new but lacked a backup camera and adaptive cruise control, which I could tolerate. However, five minutes after driving off, a warning light came on indicating low tire pressure. I just dealt with it until I returned the car. Returning the car was very quick, though. The staff completely ignored the warning light. Judging by how busy they were, I assumed they’d hand the car to the next customer without proper inspection.
When I picked up the car, the staff lady noticed my English wasn't very fluent. She didn't make it complicated for me at all and even upgraded my originally booked Nissan Qashqai SUV to a Volkswagen SUV without hesitation.
“Great service and price - everything just works.”
About Alamo:9.0/10
Great vehicle in excellent condition. The collection with Ismael was amazing and he explained everything clearly and was super helpful, polite and friendly.
The staff did not have the car we booked or similar and gave us a smaller car and made us pay more to get one that would fit. That did not charge the qeeq prices or the prices on their website but a lot more
About QEEQ:8.0/10
Need better communications with the Alamo people as we got sarcastic comments about not booking direct.
The car model did not match the reservation. There was no inspection reminder during pickup, but during return, the inspection was extremely thorough. Scratches on the tires and rims were recorded as issues for my confirmation. I raised objections, but they said they only check the car's condition at the time of return. Whether I caused the damages or not could remain disputable, but since my deposit was held, they ultimately deducted the repair fee from my account.
Excellent service. I initially booked a Ford Focus, but since the trunk of a compact car couldn't fit three suitcases, the staff proactively offered a free upgrade to a Peugeot 2008 SUV. It's the latest 2024 model with advanced smart features and great fuel efficiency. Very satisfied.
“Comany Policy means that you are made to wait 2 hours”
About Alamo:8.0/10
Booked whilst standing in the Alamo premises que, due to an issue with another car hire company ,But the company policy meant I was made to wait 2 hours before being allowed to pick up the car. Even though it was ready to be picked up immediately.
Alamo was extremely unpleasant. During car pickup, the receptionist seemed to intentionally delay by persistently promoting additional services. If you refused, they would keep staring at the computer or nagging endlessly. To avoid delaying my next schedule, I reluctantly agreed and ended up paying double the cost. During the vehicle inspection, they were nitpicking as if using a magnifying glass to find issues, almost as if wanting to make up a fault to charge extra. Thankfully, I drove cautiously, and nothing went wrong. It increasingly felt like a scam, so I decisively canceled my subsequent car rental plans with Alamo and switched to Avis. To highlight the main point again: Alamo in London is terrible!!! I've uploaded all the documentation to prove the situation is true.
The waiting time for picking up the car was very long, and the service attitude was honestly mediocre. The car wasn't cleaned thoroughly. When picking up the car, the staff was quite unhappy about recording a video of the car inspection, suspecting it was some sort of covert filming by a Chinese person. He insisted on checking the phone and demanded deletion, which felt very unreasonable. Returning the car was fine, but it's frustrating that the pre-authorization hasn't been released even after 10 working days.
Picking up and dropping off the car went smoothly. The originally booked car was too small to fit the luggage, so we switched to a Hyundai. It was easy to drive and very fuel-efficient.
The overall service was quite good. Both pickup and drop-off were very convenient. The staff, especially during the return process, was very polite. A major advantage is the relatively low deposit of only 200 GBP.
